Young Phoebe is raised as a Southwestern belle
which makes her a genteel gal who also is a great rider and
roper. One day she enters the territory rodeo to compete
against the ill-mannered Tumbleweed Gang and their reign
as champions is over.
Clifford, Elmo, and Eustace Tumbleweed decide to get rid
of sissified Phoebe Clappsaddle, once and for all. But
Phoebe fouls their devilish plot and teaches the boys
some manners too. Then for a time the desert blooms in
the territory again.
This
32 page hard back and jacketed book is beautifully illustrated
with the colors of West Texas. Illustrator
Virginia Marsh Roeder uses collage effects to depict patterns
from the cowboy's shirts to the diamonds on a rattlesnake's
back. The 31 illustrations complement the amusing story
with delicate teasing and bristly fun to delight kids and
grown-ups, alike.

In
this sequel to Phoebe Clappsaddle and the Tumbleweed
Gang, again,
we follow Phoebe, the Southwestern belle—a
mannered lady who can ride and rope any critter to Buzzard,
Texas. “Dee-lighted,” to
be asked to the school teacher’s stage as the
official welcome. Phoebe has to also deal
with the ill-mannered Tumbleweed Gang. They think she’s
broken a promise and
decided to get even, Tumbleweed style. Phoebe fouls their
plot and her pioneer spirit teaches the boys a lesson.
This 32 page hard back, jacketed book is beautifully
illustrated with gouache and again, the vibrant colors of
West Texas. Be sure to look for the hidden sub-plots that
Virginia Marsh Roeder has incorporated into this amusing
picturebook.

Sheriff Phoebe Clappsaddle, the Southwestern
belle with sweet Southern manners and tough Western skills,
is back—just
in time for the holidays. Mail doesn’t come every
day in the territory south of Big Spring, west of Marathon,
north of Terlingua, and east of El Paso, so Phoebe is "dee-lighted"
to receive a parcel. But a mule-mail mix-up leads to another
adventure for the high-spirited young sheriff. The Tumbleweed
Gang—those ornery brothers Clifford, Elmo, and Eustace—also
returns to help Phoebe solve a mystery and celebrate a frontier
Christmas, Texas style.
This 32 page hard back, jacketed book is full of Christmas
time illustrations created from gouache and collage patterns.
Illustrator, Virginia Marsh Roeder
has taken the natural beauty of West Texas and delivered it in time for holiday
fun. "Merry Christmas, y’all!"
